The plastic handle on the Dutch oven can only handle up to 375 degrees!
Get the replacement metal handle here so that you can use it in the oven!
Le Creuset Dutch ovens with plastic knobs are typically safe up to 375°F (190°C) in the oven. The plastic knob is the limiting factor – while the cast iron pot itself can handle much higher temperatures, the plastic will start to soften, warp, or potentially melt at higher heat.
If you need to cook at higher temperatures, you have a couple options:
- Replace the knob – Le Creuset sells stainless steel replacement knobs that can handle temperatures up to 500°F (260°C)
- Remove the knob temporarily – You can unscrew the plastic knob before cooking at high heat, though this makes lifting the lid more challenging
- Use pot holders or tongs – If you’re just going slightly over 375°F for a short time, you might get away with it, but I wouldn’t recommend pushing it much beyond that temperature.
Always check your specific model’s manual if you have it, as there can be slight variations between different Le Creuset lines and production years.
